Anna and I right after completing the mural, December 2020. THANK YOU, ANNA!

2020 - Change Waves No. 2, mural @ Arbeiter Brewing Company, Minneapolis, MN.

The awesome team at Arbeiter asked if I’d contribute to their walls at this great new brewery in my neighborhood. It was a great experience and am honored to be included in this sweet location. My good bud and amazing artist Anna Biedenbender helped me get it done. Give Anna a follow here.

Titled “Change Waves No. 2”, like most of my work, it’s about being formed and changed by the many complicated, intertwined forces around us, sometimes for the better. Sometimes, not so much. I believe the place where it was done, a few hundred feet away from the MPLS police 3rd precinct building, the heart of the protests regarding the murder of George Floyd by Derek Chauvin, is important and was part of the thought behind this painting. The fiery change that occurred at the corner of Minnehaha and East Lake Street during this heavy time was incredible, it was important, it was needed - I believe to express the seriousness of issues that BIPOC face every day from white-male-dominated systems and institutions. It was also complicated. Many minority owned businesses burned as well. There were known bad actors in these crowds. We have hope some will rebuild, however it’s undeniable that these various forces hurt while creating some kind of change for the better, reshaping our city, culture, this neighborhood that I call home.

Peace.
